Summary
Learn the crucial lesson of preparation before action from a demanding boss. Master the ‘Ready, Aim, Fire’ approach to truly help customers.
Let me tell you about a boss I once had.
Let’s just call him…
the meanest boss in the world.
Hard core.
Demanding.
Driven.
Perfection was the expectation.
Now… I’ll be honest…
working for him wasn’t always pleasant.
But I learned more from that man than almost anybody I had ever worked with before.
At the time…
I was a hard worker.
I had a proven track record as a top performer.
But I had one big problem:
I was always in a hurry.
Always moving fast.
Always trying to make something happen.
And one day…
I had a big deal I was working on.
So I called Bob to walk him through it.
But honestly…
I was all over the place.
Unorganized.
Scattered.
Trying to explain everything too fast.
And finally… Bob stopped me.
He said:
“Ever heard of ready… aim… fire?”
Before I could even answer…
he said:
“You are ready… fire.
Ready… fire.”
Then he said:
“When you get your brain reconnected… call me back.”
And then he hung up on me.
Now at the time…
I didn’t exactly enjoy that moment.
But I never forgot the lesson.
Slow down.
Understand the problems you’re trying to solve for the customer.
Get organized.
Build a real plan.
Because the goal is not just to win a big deal.
The goal is to actually help the customer.
That means:
digging in…
knowing your stuff…
thinking clearly…
and preparing before you fire.
Ready.
Aim.
Fire.
Not ready… fire… ready fire.
And once you’re prepared?
Outwork everybody.
Help as many people as you can.
And trust the process.
You’ve got this.
Now let’s get crackin’. ????
Then making it sound natural in your own voice.
Some people are naturally warm.
Some are direct.
Some are analytical.
Some are high-energy.
That’s okay.
You do not have to become somebody different to become successful.
You just need a framework that helps guide the conversation.
Grab attention.
Create interest.
Help them win.
That’s the structure.
Now your job is to practice it…
use it…
and adapt it.
Because sales is an art.
And like any skill…
it requires repetition.
The more conversations you have…
the more confident you become.
The more confident you become…
the more natural you sound.
And eventually…
the word tracks stop sounding like “word tracks.”
They simply become the way you communicate.
So don’t be afraid to tweak things.
Adjust your pace.
Adjust your wording.
Adjust based on the personality you’re talking to.
Keep what works.
Improve what doesn’t.
That’s how grinders grow.
And remember this:
You do not have to be perfect to help people.
You just need to be prepared… genuine… and willing to improve.
Build it.
Use it.
Adapt it.
You’ve got this.
Let’s get crackin’.
